Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This early 20th century Edwardian bar stool combines industrial style with functional design, originating from Denmark. The piece consists of a circular upholstered seat in dark brown leather, finished with a neat row of metal studs along the lower edge, mounted atop a pale warm brown turned beech frame. A central threaded wooden screw allows the height to be adjusted, supported by three curved tripod legs united by a triangular stretcher. Measuring 74 cm to 94 cm in height with a seat diameter of 39 cm, the stool serves as an adaptable seating option for a kitchen island, breakfast bar, or creative workspace in a modern home.

FAQs

Screw-thread adjustable stools emerged in the nineteenth century primarily as music seats and drafting stools, allowing precise height alterations for musicians, artists, and industrial draftspersons.

Traditional examples utilise solid hardwoods such as beech, oak, or mahogany for the threaded central screw and tripod legs, often paired with leather or timber seating secured with brass studding.

Authentic historic stools feature hand-cut or timber-carved central screws rather than modern plastic mechanisms, along with natural wear around the footrest stretchers and aged patina on the leather.

Position these versatile seats alongside a contemporary kitchen island or home bar to introduce organic timber textures and an industrial aesthetic into modern spaces.

Maintain the wooden screw mechanism by applying beeswax to keep the thread turning smoothly, and treat the leather seat periodically with a dedicated leather balm.
