This Art Deco bow brooch dates from the 1920s and is signed Cartier Paris. The piece is crafted as a platinum ribbon bow featuring forty-two old European-cut diamonds alongside forty-one calibre-cut black onyx stones. The design incorporates pave-set diamonds bordering a central stripe of black onyx, culminating in a rectangular-cut onyx knot at the centre. Visible details include French assay marks, a maker's mark, a signature, and an engraved serial number SL875 on the reverse hardware. The colour palette combines metallic silver and deep black tones across its geometric surfaces. Measuring 5.8 cm high, 0.5 cm wide and 1 cm deep, the brooch is scaled for wearable jewellery use on formal garments. It belongs in a collection of period Cartier pieces or serves as an authentic accessory for evening wear on coats, lapels or scarves today.

Art Deco jewellery from the 1920s is defined by linear geometric shapes, bold colour contrasts, and monochromatic palettes. High jewellery houses during this era frequently combined diamonds with black onyx, rock crystal, or vibrant gemstones set in platinum.

1920s brooches were predominantly crafted from platinum or white gold to achieve a bright, neutral backdrop for diamonds. Accents commonly included calibre-cut black onyx, sapphires, rubies, or emeralds fitted into fine grain-set mounts.

Authentic pieces display period-specific features such as hand-cut diamonds (Old European or single cuts), millegrain edging, calibre-cut accent stones, and platinum settings. Makers marks, French export marks, or maker signatures like Cartier Paris provide further authentication.

An Art Deco brooch can be pinned to a modern jacket lapel, attached to a silk scarf, or placed on a evening handbag strap. It can also be worn as a hair ornament by securing it to a headband or velvet ribbon.

Clean gently using a soft-bristled brush, mild soap, and warm water, taking care not to submerge pieces with delicate settings or foil backings. Store separately in a fabric-lined box to prevent harder diamonds from scratching onyx or platinum surfaces.
