Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the early 20th century, particularly the Edwardian era, silver-mounted oak and mahogany trays became popular functional accessories for tea service and dining room sideboards. These items combined polished hardwood bases with hallmarked sterling silver or silver-plated pierced gallery rims and twin carrying handles.

Trays of this period typically feature solid oak or mahogany bases framed by a silver pierced gallery border designed to prevent glassware from slipping. Construction details frequently include cast silver side handles, small bun feet, and a central silver cartouche for engraving.

Authentic pieces generally bear British hallmarks or makers marks stamped along the silver gallery rim, handles, or central medallion. Key indicators include date letters corresponding to the early 1900s, alongside hand-pierced metal galleries and natural timber grain showing historical patina.

An antique silver and oak tray serves as an effective decorative base when placed on a sideboard, ottoman, or bar cart to organise crystal decanters and glassware. It can also function as a structured table centrepiece holding candles or decorative objects.

Dust the wooden surface regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and condition the timber with natural beeswax polish, keeping wax away from metal elements. Clean the silver gallery using a dedicated silver polishing cloth, ensuring liquid polishes do not seep into the surrounding wood grain.
