Description

This is a rare 17th century hand painted leather chest on stand with a great antique charm. The characterful studded leather retains much of its original hand painted detail with a beautiful central studded cartouche and faux strapwork designs decorated with stylised flowers. The chest has a very pretty early papered lining inside and is raised upon a later stand, sturdily constructed from an 18th century silver gilt console table base which has silver gilt carved sections to the front and charming hand painted sections to the sides. The stand is a most characterful addition that suits the piece admirably. The chest is an unusual and rare piece dating from the late 1600s, circa 1680.

The chest measures 55 cms high overall on the stand. The stand being 75 cms wide 46 cms deep by 23 cms high. The chest alone is 72 cms wide 42 cms deep by 33 cms high.
