Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A pair of seventeenth century Baroque carved wooden angel candlesticks displays a warm brown finish across deeply textured figural forms. Each standing winged angel wears heavy draped robes, holding aloft a barley twist stem topped with a metal pricket spike set within a circular drip pan. One angel figure clearly shows a missing wing on its left side, revealing the natural grain of the timber beneath the polished surface. The hand-carved figures rest upon circular wooden bases, with visible wear and character markings accumulated over centuries of use. Measuring 53 cm high, 16 cm wide, and 25 cm deep, these substantial ornaments suit placement on a sideboard top or large mantelpiece within a traditional interior. They provide atmospheric accent lighting when fitted with candles during dining or evening relaxation. Collectors of Gothic and Victorian revival decorative arts appreciate the sculptural presence and antique character of this matched pair.

FAQs

Carved angel pricket candlesticks are decorative lighting stands crafted from wood, featuring sculpted angelic or cherubic figures holding a column that terminates in a metallic spike, or pricket, designed to secure a wax candle.

These pieces were typically carved by hand from dense hardwoods such as oak, walnut, or fruitwood, often featuring hand-lathed twisted columns, iron pricket spikes, and carved plinth bases.

Authentic period examples exhibit irregular tool marks from hand chiselling, natural wood shrinkage along the grain, deep patination in recessed areas, and hand-forged iron prickets.

They serve as impactful architectural accents when placed symmetrically on a sideboard, mantelpiece, or console table, contrasting well against clean contemporary lines or textured brickwork.

Keep the wood nourished by applying a high-grade beeswax polish with a soft cloth once or twice a year, and position the items away from direct heat sources to prevent timber warping or splitting.
