Here we have a wonderful rare North Italian Cypress wood chest c1580. As you can see the chest has outstanding colour and patina. The chest has superb Pyrographed scenes depicting soldiers noble men and women. There is relief carving throughout and a central city scene to the centre front. These chests are from the Northern parts of Italy and the Southern Alps, namely Venice, the Adige and Umbria and often were made fro the English market however this one has the hallmarks of being for the region from where it was made and is probably a marriage chest. There are original forged iron handles and original hand forged strap hinges. A super chest in fantastic retail condition ready for your home. The dimensions are approx 153 cm wide 60 cm deep 62 cm high.
