Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A chest on stand, also known as a tallboy or highboy, is a two-part piece of furniture featuring a chest of drawers mounted upon a raised base or table frame. Popularised in the late 17th and early 18th centuries during the William and Mary and George I periods, it allowed elevated access to storage.

George I chests on stand were predominantly constructed using figured or burr walnut veneers laid over a pine or oak carcass. Drawer fronts frequently featured crossbanding, herringbone feather inlay, and cast brass handles, while the stand rested on carved cabriole legs.

Authentic George I period furniture features hand-cut dovetail joints, oak or pine drawer linings with runner wear, and thick, hand-sawn walnut veneers. Look for original brass plate handles, secondary wood aging, and carved cabriole legs featuring acanthus detailing or ball-and-claw feet.

A walnut chest on stand functions effectively as a focal piece in a hallway, bedroom, or living space. Pair it with neutral painted walls to highlight the rich timber tones, or place modern table lamps and ceramics nearby to contrast traditional cabinetmaking with contemporary design elements.

Maintain the timber by dusting regularly with a soft, dry lint-free cloth and applying a quality beeswax polish twice a year. Keep the chest away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent wood shrinkage, veneer lifting, and uneven fading of the finish.
