This is an original Art Deco chest of drawers in figured walnut, dating from 1930 and originating in England. The piece is finished in a warm brown tone that highlights the symmetrical bookmatched grain patterns across the four drawers, complemented by a polished surface, a small brass keyhole escutcheon near the top, and minimalist horizontal wooden bar handles. It stands on a solid plinth base. Measuring 83 cm high, 76 cm wide, and 46 cm deep, the proportions offer practical storage capacity. It functions well as a bedroom chest or an occasional storage unit in a living space, providing a clean period profile suited to modern interiors.

FAQs

Art Deco furniture, prominent from the 1920s through the 1930s, emphasizes geometric forms, clean lines, and highly figured wood veneers. Pieces often showcase symmetrical wood graining, minimalist hardware, and solid architectural proportions.

Chests from this period typically feature solid wood framing overlaid with carefully matched decorative walnut veneers, such as burr or figured walnut. Drawers generally incorporate traditional dovetail joinery and operate on internal wooden runners.

Authentic pieces display distinct period features including bookmatched veneer patterns, geometric or wooden bar handles, plinth bases, and original brass keyhole escutcheons. Internal construction usually reveals dovetailed drawer linings and solid timber secondary woods.

The clean architectural lines and rich warm wood tones allow an Art Deco chest to serve as a grounding focal point in contemporary bedrooms or hallways. It pairs naturally with modern neutral walls, brass accents, and minimalist decorative accessories.

Regular dusting with a soft, lint-free cloth preserves the finish. Applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year protects the timber, while keeping the piece away from direct heat sources and sunlight prevents drying and veneer lifting.
