Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Art Deco tallboy chest of drawers originates from 1940 and exhibits a streamlined design typical of the period. The piece stands at 115.5 cm high, 67 cm wide, and 42 cm deep. Constructed with a walnut veneer, it displays a warm brown palette with bookmatched figured wood grain across its eight horizontally stacked drawers. The top surface features rounded over edges, complemented by an ebonised plinth base at the bottom. Each drawer is fitted with original circular black Bakelite handles positioned centrally towards either side. The vertical bank provides substantial storage capacity while maintaining a compact footprint, making it suitable for placement in a bedroom, dressing room, or hallway to store folded garments, linens, or accessories. The restoration work completed in the workshop leaves the timber finish in home ready condition.

FAQs

Art Deco furniture, prominent from the 1920s through the 1930s, is characterised by geometric forms, clean lines, streamlined silhouettes, and the prominent use of rich wood veneers such as walnut, mahogany, and maple.

Pieces from this era typically feature secondary pine or oak carcases covered with decorative figured hardwood veneers, accompanied by synthetic Bakelite or cast metal hardware and solid wood bases.

Authentic pieces display hand-cut or early machine dovetail joints inside drawers, period-correct veneer patterns such as book-matching, original Bakelite or brass hardware, and age-appropriate wear to the polish.

A tallboy offers efficient vertical storage for compact spaces and can be placed against neutral walls to highlight the natural timber figure, or integrated into a dark academia interior scheme.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth, apply a high-quality natural beeswax periodically, and position the piece away from direct sunlight and radiators to prevent timber shrinkage or veneer lifting.
