A charming Victorian pine trunk with an original paint finish. This fine example of a 19th century general purpose storage box retains a scumble surface; a clever traditional technique of overlaying paint/stain to achieve a natural wood grain appearance. It has a plain plinth-base support and the box is finished all the way round meaning it can be placed anywhere in a room - not necessarily against a wall. It has a key that operates the original lock that is in perfect working order. English, c.1880s.
