An 18th Century Red Leather Travelling Trunk

An English dome top travelling trunk with original nailed decoration. This leather covered, pine trunk would have originally been dyed a deep burgundy, and has now largely faded to a rich brown patina. Decorated on all four faces with a pattern of nails, this box is in very good condition given its age, retaining its original red silk lining. and iron carrying handles and brass plates, with just a few of the original studs missing , see image for a view of the most significant wear , bottom right rear panel. English early 18th century.
