Description

A good example of a large English oak Coffer dating from the late 17th / early 18th Century. It has a traditional panelled construction standing on four block feet. The front and sides are decorated with simple rows of arched carvings.

We believe the lid has been changed at some point a very long time ago. It is made from stained pine planks with a wonderful patina and has blacksmith made hinges and closing latch. Inside it has its original candle box and is generally clean and tidy with its original floor.

It is in good condition and is strong and sturdy. It has avoided being over-carved and is a pretty well balanced example. There are signs of age and use, some surface marks and a few knocks but nothing detrimental. The back feet have worn over time and have been built up with some small blocks. There are some signs of historic woodworm which has all been treated as a precaution.

It has been cleaned and gently polished and is ready for use
