Dating to the second half of the 17th century is this simple oak box of solid construction in fine single planks showing a prolific display of medullary rays.

Probably originally a practical sword box hence it’s proportions and lack of any fitted candle box.

A very practical & useful furnishing item of much charm & character having great patina & colour. Locks & hinges of different styles were evidently fitted during different life stages.
