Description:
This is a fine quality large antique Victorian mahogany concave ottoman, newly upholstered to a professional standard in a top-quality handmade crewel embroidery, circa 1870, in excellent condition. The ottoman has been newly & professionally upholstered and benefits from a sumptuous deep seat. We sourced the crewel-work direct from Kashmir and it is handmade with top quality two-ply wool and silk, hand embroidered on apple green cotton of crewel design. The red base structured chenille fabric is from Linwood and features a herringbone design. The seat is hinged and opens to reveal a spacious interior, which has been newly lined with dark-blue navy fabric. The original hinges to the lid are strong and in good condition. The underside of the ottoman retains the original wooden boards. The ottoman incorporates a moulded mahogany frame at the base and stands on replacement turned bun feet.
This Victorian ottoman would be useful for storing magazines, music, clothes or bedding. It would look great in the bedroom in front of the bed or in the living room. It has a lovely mahogany patina moulded frame, which has been generated by the years of cleaning and care it has received. This item is well constructed, solid in joint and ready to use.
Condition Report:
The ottoman is in excellent condition having been newly upholstered to a professional standard. Therefore, the upholstery material is new and free from damage, rips, and marks. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges of the mahogany moulded frame and bun feet but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The frame is solid and in sound condition with no loose movements. The original hinges to the lid are strong and in good condition. The ottoman stands on replacement elegant turned bun feet. The ottoman sits firm on the ground and does not wobble; the brass castors are in excellent condition.
