The Antique Partnership has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
Camphor wood was used as it has the ability to ward off insects and moths which might attack clothing and uniforms. There is a lidded candle box to the interior. There are scratches cracks and general battle scars from being handled during various journeys on campaign but overall the trunk is solid strong and well made with dovetail joints.
Great size for a coffee table in a London apartment or for a bedside table perhaps.
