A rare 16th Century English Oak Coffer with panelled front and shaped ends retaining all its original boards. The colour and patina is particularly good as is the quality of the linenfold carving to the front. The back board and underneath are wonderfully clean and dry and in the condition we love to see them in having never been varnished or tampered with. This model is often referred to as a Henry VIII Coffer. For a very similar example with carving of the same type see sotheby''s sale - The Age of Oak and Walnut , 28th September 2004, lot 65
