Description

A magnificent example of a 19th century trunk. This superb coffer — ideal for use as a blanket chest at the end of a bed, or as a useful coffee table — is in camphorwood that has an untouched finish of immense depth and colour, with a deep, warm patination. The lift-up lid, which has three cross-braces for added strength, opens to reveal a plain interior for general storage. It has numerous gilt-brass corner protectors and there is a fully working key to the original lock. A fine piece with lots of charm and character. It is English, and it dates from c.1850.
