Stunning Georgian Rose Diamond and Flat Cut Rubies Amethysts 18th Century Vintage Antique Brooch

19th century
Description

Date made: 1800's

Metal: Tests at least 18ct

Diamond content: 3-4ct

Ruby content: 1-11/2ct

Amethyst content: 1/2ct

Condition: Excellent commensurate to its age

This is truly rare piece,  A Georgian, 18th century brooch - stomacher, one of the best we've ever seen.

This stunning brooch is centrally encrusted with very large foil backed rose cut diamonds with a surround of flat cut foil backed rubies and six amethysts on the sides.

A further 44 old antique cut diamonds flow around the outside of the brooch.

The diamonds are white and clean for rose cuts and the rubies are bright clean glistening and unrubbed.

We would estimate the diamond content at approx 3-4 carats (measured in situ.) The rubies at approx 1 - 1 1/2 carat. The weight is difficult to guage because the stones are flat based.

The two largest diamonds in the centre measure 5 mm x 5 mm  each.

The brooch is concave and gold backed with all stones silver set as was the way.

The weight is 15.9 grams

The pin is original and is removable from its hinge. The pin catch flattens down leading me to believe this must have been designed to wear as something other than a brooch as well, maybe there was a ring shank at sometime.

The brooch measures approx 3 1/2 cm x 3 cm!

A stunning museum piece in a league of it's own try and find another.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Georgian jewellery, produced between 1714 and 1837, is characterised by intricate hand-crafted metalwork, closed-backed gemstone settings, and geometric cluster arrangements.

Craftsmen typically mounted diamonds and coloured gemstones such as rubies and amethysts in silver settings backed with gold, frequently utilising metallic foil behind stones to enhance reflectivity.

Authentic pieces feature closed foil-backed settings, hand-cut rose or table-cut gemstones, silver-topped gold construction, and period-accurate fittings such as long pin stems.

Fine antique brooches can be styled on contemporary tailored coat lapels or displayed within framed velvet shadow boxes as decorative accent pieces.

Submersion in liquid or ultrasonic cleaners must be avoided, as moisture discolours foil backing; gentle wiping with a soft, dry microfibre cloth is recommended.
