A 19thC Chinese trunk with superb bespoke decorative brass wear. Possibly a marriage chest but certainly made to carry clothing rather than heavy valuables. Decorative brass lid hasp and lock ring. The front is profusely decorated with the usual chinoiserie scenes of temples, priests, and deer . The top and sides are less profuse showing foliage and a temple. The exterior is canvas over wood rather than lacquered wood. The rear is black canvas bearing a crown suggesting colonial connections. The canvas to the top has scuffs and damage from use over the years. A interesting piece.
