Description

An extremely interesting French goldsmiths exhibition case very suited today as a coffee table. Made for the eminent French goldsmiths Froment-Meurice of Paris in oak with brass corner caping and high quality fittings. The top has a crested cartouche which requires further research. The goldsmiths name is embossed on the original lock face. Quadrant lid braces,brass hinges and superb ornate side lifting handles. The handles are embossed AG to the underside.

The case was probably made for transporting an important piece to exhibition there is feint evidence of a large oval to the inside base so this suggests perhaps a table centre piece.

The wole is riased on cast iron wheeled casters. A key is present but it is not functional.
