Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Rococo fireplace fender is a decorative metal barrier positioned around a hearth, often incorporating integrated end supports known as chenets or fire dogs. Originating in 18th-century France and widely produced during 19th-century revivals, these items served both to contain hearth debris and complement architectural interior schemes.

Ormolu fenders were constructed using cast bronze that was gilded using a mercury amalgam process to achieve a durable, radiant finish. Fenders of this era frequently incorporated adjustable central crossbars held together with threaded iron rods, allowing the surround to fit varying hearth dimensions.

Authentic 19th-century pieces feature significant weight, hand-chased detailing, and dark oxidisation or patination within recessed areas. Examination of the reverse side typically reveals hand-cut screws, cast registration numbers, or traditional threaded square nuts rather than modern uniform fixings.

Position the fender around a traditional open hearth or modern bioethanol fireplace insert to frame the opening. The gilded metal contrast performs well against dark painted chimney breasts, marble surrounds, or minimalist stone hearth bases.

Dust the surface regularly using a soft, dry bristle brush or microfibre cloth to clear dust from detailed crevices. Avoid chemical metal polishes, water, or abrasive cleaning compounds, as these treatments can permanently strip or scratch the thin gilding.
