Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Locking decanters became popular during the late 19th century in Victorian Britain as a secure way to store valuable spirits. Designed with a fitted silver collar and key-operated lock mechanism, they prevented unauthorised access while functioning as decorative tabletop barware.

These items were typically constructed from hand-cut lead crystal glass, paired with sterling silver or silver-plated collars, handles, and locking structures. The stoppers were ground to fit precisely into the neck of the bottle.

Authentic British pieces feature official assay hallmarks stamped into the silver collar or handle, indicating the purity, makers mark, assay office, and year of manufacture. The cut glass should display sharp facet lines and hand-cut detailing rather than moulded seams.

Place the decanter on a dark wood sideboard, drinks trolley, or tray alongside vintage glassware to complement traditional dining or living spaces. The clear cut crystal reflects light effectively when situated near warm table lamps.

Clean the glass interior using warm water, mild soap, and non-abrasive cleaning beads or a flexible brush. Avoid submerging the silver components in water; clean and polish silver fittings separately using a soft cloth designed for precious metals.
