Oak And Iron Silver Chest From Stately Home

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Prometheus Antiques

An interesting oak trunk for the family silver, owned by Montague Richard Waldo Sibthorp (1848 – 1929) of the famous Lincolnshire family who owned Canwick Hall. The trunk is made of solid oak and is bound in wrought iron. The trunk has a brass plaque on the front reading M.R. Waldo-Sibthorp Esq No3. The interior also has a brass plaque for the silversmith George Gilliam, indicating that the trunk was used to lock the family silver away. The Trunk is in good condition, but sadly the lock has been removed. It has a great decorators look and an interesting back story C.1880.
