George III Camphor and Leather Travelling Trunk

18th century
Description

Circa 1810, late George III camphor, leather and brass bound travelling trunk. The rectangular trunk has faded stencilled foliate designs and floral painting throughout. In the centre there are various studs forming an almost heraldic shield shape. The studding occurs on the edge and the fore-edge is brass bound on the top and the sides. Beneath the top there is a leather apron again held in place by close brass studding and this is stencilled with flowers. There is covering on the back but this does not have any painting on it. There are cast brass lifting handles at the sides with lovely patination, brass studding and stencilling and this again occurs on the front. The kist has great character and would make a very stylish coffee table for storage.
