A most unusual late Victorian double inkwell or inkstand, made from English silver plate. Beautifully decorated, the base stands on four large bun feet and both back and front is mounted with a pen rest, to rest one''s dip pen.
The wonderful push back and disappear to the underside and reveal two very fine quality cut crystal inkwells (one tiny fleabite to the underside of one - insignificant but mentioned for accuracy) with silver plated collars.
Dating to the late nineteenth century it remains in superb condition. The footprint measures 10'' x 5 3/4'' and standing 3 1/4'' to top of domes. Each inkwell has a diameter measuring 2 1/2''. The underside is clearly marked for the well renowned silversmith, Martin Hall of Sheffield.
