Driscolls Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the 1700s.
It has a moulded lid, unusually still with a key and working lock along with a charming iron locking plate. The front has raised fielded panels and moulded edges whilst the sides and back are also panelled. The coffer is of pegged construction, stands on tall raised stile feet while the interior contains a hinged candle box.
