A Mid 17th C Nuremberg Iron Strong Box C 1650

Description

A rare mid 17th c Nuremberg iron strong box c 1650 with a central masterpiece lock controlling a complicated internal mechanism with 10 sliding bolts.

This large so called Armada chest was formerly at Upcerne Manor in Dorset and bears labels to the keys and inside stating Upcerne Heirlooms and was clearly the valuables chest for this important Elizabethan Manor House. Formerly the property of Colonel Mount Batten in the 19th century this strong box has descended down through the family to the present day.

Size: 37 ins wide 20 ins deep 20 ins high
