A Superb bureau bookcase in the manner of Giles Grendy. Mahogany with satinwood banding to the shaped bookcase panels and the small drawers in the bureau interior.Bold architectural pediment surmounted by a gilded urn.The bookcase has 4 shelves which are adjustable,the brass key escutchion to the fall is original , the drawer handles are replacements, the condition of this item is excellent.
Giles Grendy was an eminent London cabinet maker working from c 1718 to c 1780,the shape of the bookcase doors and the pediment are typical of his work though the piece is not signed in any way
