An absolutely stunning large general-purpose storage trunk from the 19th century. This beautiful coffer, in solid camphorwood – which naturally deters moths and other insects – is comprised of a lift-up lid opening to reveal a single storage compartment. It is of exposed dovetail construction with solid brass lifting handles to each end. The original finish has a rich warm colour and the top, with its highly-figured timbers, is truly exceptional. This trunk would make an ideal coffee table or it could be used as a blanket chest at the end of a bed. It is English, dating from c.1850s, and there is a working lock and key.
