Description

A particularly fine example of a medium/large sized 18th century general purpose storage trunk in solid English oak. The overhanging D-moulded-edged top opens on wrought iron hinges to reveal a capacious single storage compartment. The main carcass – of exposed dovetail construction – sits on a finely moulded plinth base support. Timbers used are of top quality; very well figured and with an original untouched finish having a rich, warm colour and patination. This beautiful coffer is English, c.1750 – c.1775. There is a working lock and key.
