17th Century Devon Coffer

An excellent example of an English 17th Century Oak Coffer.
 
With a superbly carved front. Retaining a wonderful rich glowing colour and patina.
 
The carving is deep and bold and has obviously been done by a highly skilled craftsman of the period. The Figure of five guilloche
 
carved panels are thought to be typical of furniture from Devon.
 
The top is of panel construction also.
 
The coffer is completely original apart from the lock plate.
