Camphorwood Carved Chest with Four Internal Drawers

1900 - 1920
Description

This well carved camphorwood chest dates from the 1920s. It has 2 doors which open to reveal 4 drawers and the smell of camphorwood is evident straight away. The right hand door has a slight bow which is not uncommon in chests of this type. The drawers inside have all their original brass handles.

Camphorwood was used as it has a natural resistance to moths and will protect clothes without making them smell. The chest sits on well carved cabriole feet to the front and rear. There are no splits to the carcase and the whole piece of furniture is extremely heavy
