An Interesting 19thc Silver Trunk (Hancocks)

Description

A good small oak silver trunk. Now perfect as an end of sofa table or bedside table.19th C and made by the renound jewelers Hankocks of Bruton St London(Bond Street). Hancocks made the Victoria Cross and now are located in the Burlington Arcade.

The owners name is in a brass plaque F Sassoon Esq. The sides have large brass carrying handles to which are attached lables one of which bears the name Ezra of 17 Knightsbridge. (The Sassoon and Ezra familys lived at 17 Knightsbridge). The chest has old wax around the lock escutcheon and other paper labels. The interior bears the makers label and cartouche in ivory. The interior trays are intact and could again be used for storing a collection of dinner silver.
