This early Georgian bureau bookcase dates from around 1750 and is constructed from dark brown Cuban mahogany with brass and glass. The tall piece measures 213.36 cm high, 109.22 cm wide, and 58.42 cm deep. The upper section contains two mirrored panel doors enclosing shelving, while the lower body features a sloped fall-front desk that opens to reveal internal drawers, pigeonholes, and secret compartments. Below the writing surface are four graduating long drawers fitted with brass drop handles, all resting upon bracket feet. The woodwork shows a rich polished finish, and the cabinet displays fine moulded cornices and shaped door frames. In a contemporary home, this imposing item suits a gentleman's library, a spacious study, or a traditional living room for display and writing use. The interior compartments provide practical organisation for stationery and papers, while the upper glass doors protect and showcase books or collections. The sturdy proportions and classic storage layout make it a functional focal point for traditional interiors.

An early Georgian bureau bookcase is a two-part piece of furniture featuring a slant-front writing desk at the base and an enclosed cabinet or bookcase above, popular during the early to mid-18th century.

These pieces were predominantly constructed from solid Cuban mahogany or walnut, featuring hand-dovetailed drawer linings, cast brass drop handles, and often mirrored or fielded timber panel doors.

Authentic Georgian examples typically display hand-sawn timber marks, oak or pine secondary drawer linings, hand-forged steel locks, and dense mahogany with deep natural patination.

A Georgian bureau bookcase serves as a focal point in a home office, hallway, or living room, providing concealed workspace storage alongside display space for ceramics or books.

Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and damp environments to prevent timber movement, and polish periodically with a high-grade beeswax to protect the original finish.
