An 18thc Mule Chest

18th century
Description

An 18thc country made 2 panel mule chest. Peg jointed and constructed from pine elm and oak colour washed with a hue of red lead oxide. Extremely decorative and suitable for a hall or flat screen tv stand in a large country house it measures 85 cms wide by 51 deep by 80 high. The lid lifts to reveal an untouched interior which has a candle tray to oine side. The iron hinges do not match but appear original. The original lock is in place with a working key. The escutcheons to the lid lock and drawer are in elongated diamond shaped bone. The drawer pulls are of fruitwood and appear original. The condition is good with a wax finish but with a minor crack to the lid and some touching up to the coloured surfaces which is rubbed through to the wood grain.
