Impressed STERLING SILVER stamp: standard silver fineness mark of the period.
Soft tarnish in the crevices on the reverse: natural oxidisation over decades.

Scandinavian enamel jewellery gained widespread international popularity in the early-to-mid 20th century, particularly throughout Norway and Denmark. Silversmiths combined traditional metalworking with delicate guilloche engine-turning, producing nature-inspired motifs such as butterflies, leaves, and flowers finished with translucent enamel glazes.

Guilloche enamel is crafted by mechanically engraving an intricate, repeating pattern onto the silver substrate using a rose-engine lathe. Translucent enamel powder is then applied over the engraved surface and fired in a kiln at high temperatures, creating a radiant visual texture beneath the glass finish.

Authentic pieces from this era typically feature silver purity hallmarks, such as 925S or 830S, alongside recognised makers marks or origin stamps. Additionally, genuine 1930s examples demonstrate precise geometric engine-turning beneath unblemished translucent enamel work and employ period-correct rollover or C-clasp fasteners.

Vintage enamel brooches can be fastened to lapels, scarves, velvet ribbons, or cloth handbags to add a pop of colour to contemporary attire. When not worn, they are frequently displayed on fabric-lined jewellery trays or framed inside shallow shadow boxes as decorative wall accent pieces.

Enamel jewellery should be wiped gently with a soft microfibre cloth to remove surface oils and dust. Avoid submerging enamelled metal in chemical silver dips or hot water, as thermal shock and harsh chemicals can cause the enamel layer to crack or separate from the silver base.
