FAQs

Arts and Crafts lighting emerged as a reaction against mass industrialisation, focusing on handcrafted construction, honest use of materials, and visible joinery such as rivets and hand-hammered details.

These lanterns typically combine hand-blown vaseline glass containing trace amounts of uranium dioxide with mixed-metal frames crafted from copper, brass, or wrought iron.

Authentic vaseline glass exhibits a distinct yellow-green translucent hue that fluoresces bright green under ultraviolet light, paired with period-appropriate hand-formed metal frames and age-consistent oxidisation.

A period hanging lantern functions effectively as a focal feature in an entryway, hallway, or suspended over a kitchen island to introduce historical warmth and textural contrast.

Clean the glass shade with a soft dry cloth, avoiding abrasive chemicals on the metal frame to preserve the natural historical patina, and ensure all electrical wiring is inspected by a qualified electrician.
