FAQs

Regency style metalware, prominent in the early nineteenth century, is defined by classical Greek and Roman influences. Design elements frequently include columns, fluting, laurel wreaths, and square stepped bases, reflecting the periods interest in Neoclassical architecture.

Pieces from this period were predominantly cast in solid brass, bronze, or bronze patinated to mimic classical metalwork. Some examples were finished with gilt or silver plating to enhance brightness under candlelight.

Authentic nineteenth-century brass pieces typically feature hand-turned elements, original threading along central rods, visible seam lines from sand casting, and subtle weight variations. Age-related wear, light pitting, and oxidisation inside the candle sockets also indicate genuine period construction.

A pair of classical metal candlesticks offers architectural symmetry when placed on a fireplace mantelpiece, sideboard, or dining table centre. They contrast effectively against modern muted paint palettes, dark timber surfaces, or contemporary artwork.

To remove accumulated wax, immerse the pieces gently in warm water or warm them carefully with a hair dryer to loosen residue without scraping the metal. Maintain the finish using a soft cloth and a specialised metal polish, avoiding harsh chemicals or abrasive pads that can strip surface detail.
