Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 1900s:
Maker's mark WH 90 on the base: Wang Hing of Hong Kong.
Chinese artisan character stamped beside the maker's mark: workshop production.
Hand-chased dragon in relief over textured ground: typical export silver craftsmanship.
Screw threads on the neck: standard late Victorian and Edwardian condiment fitting.
Natural softening to the high points of the scales: decades of careful polishing.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Chinese export silver refers to silver metalwork produced in China from the late 18th century through the mid-20th century specifically for Western export. These items combined traditional Western utilitarian forms with hand-carved Chinese decorative motifs such as dragons, bamboo, and landscapes.

Pieces were typically crafted from high-purity silver, often tested to sterling standard or slightly below. Craftsmen used repousse and chasing techniques to raise patterns from the reverse and detail them from the front, often against a hand-hammered background.

Authentic items often feature pseudo-hallmarks or artisan makers marks, frequently stamped with both English initials and Chinese character shop marks. High relief repousse work, crisp detailing, and correct historical weight further indicate authenticity.

Small silver table accessories can be styled as accent pieces on sideboards, within glazed curio cabinets, or arranged on a silver tray as part of a formal dining room display.

Clean silver gently using a soft microfibre cloth and standard silver polish designed for antique metals. Avoid harsh chemical dips or abrasive pads that can strip natural oxidisation from the recessed details of relief carving.
