This Victorian claret jug combines a clear cut glass body with a hallmarked silver mount, a hinged lid, and a curved loop handle. The globular glass features complex starburst facets, detailed patterns, and a star cut to the body, contrasted by the smooth, reflective finish of the silver collar, pouring lip, and dome-shaped lid. Softened but readable marks appear on the piece, alongside a part mark to the lid. The object measures 21.5 cm high, 15.5 cm wide, and 10 cm deep. It functions as a decorative serving piece suitable for display on a sideboard top in a dining room or library setting.

A claret jug is a specialized vessel featuring a glass body and silver or silver-plated mounts, designed in the nineteenth century specifically for decanting and serving red wines from Bordeaux, historically referred to as claret.

Victorian claret jugs typically combine hand-blown or heavy cut lead crystal glass with hallmarked sterling silver, electroplated silver, or nickel collars, handles, and hinged lids.

Authentic pieces feature official makers marks or silver hallmarks stamped on the collar or lid, paired with hand-cut geometric or starburst facets in the heavy lead glass body.

Place the claret jug on a dining sideboard, bar cart, or tray alongside crystal glassware to create a refined focal point for entertaining.

Clean the glass interior with warm water and mild detergent, avoiding submersion of the silver parts, and gently polish the metal mounts using a soft cloth designed for silver care.
