Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Amsterdam School five-light hanging light dates from around 1900. Produced in the bronze style with a rich dark finish, it displays a distinct tiered central column formed of flared concentric cups leading to a wide bowl base, complemented by small pleated fabric lampshades in a warm cream tone over each exterior arm and five internal lights illuminating the lower shade panel. The piece measures 85 cm high by 85 cm wide and 85 cm deep, holding original structural form without damage while incorporating modern electrical wiring. It hangs as an overhead statement piece in a dining room, hallway or reception space, providing functional downward illumination alongside ambient character.

FAQs

Originating in the Netherlands between 1910 and 1930, Amsterdam School lighting is defined by its expressionist, sculptural forms, organic curves combined with geometric layering, and robust metal craftsmanship.

Fixtures from this era were primarily constructed from cast or patinated bronze, brass, and copper, often paired with glass, fabric, or parchment shades to diffuse light.

Authentic pieces feature heavy architectural metalwork, distinctive tiered or stepped shapes, hand-finished patinas, and construction techniques typical of early twentieth-century metal smithing.

Position the chandelier centrally above a dining table, foyer, or living room seating area to allow its sculptural silhouette to serve as an architectural focal point alongside contemporary or period furnishings.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft microfiber cloth and avoid abrasive polishes that strip the original patina. Ensure all historical wiring is inspected and updated by a qualified electrician to meet modern safety standards.
