This nineteenth-century French table lamp originates from 1880 and comes in clear and gold colours with a French Chateau design vibe. The piece is constructed from crystal, gilt bronze, and brass, utilizing a twisted stem, a swirl glass base, and gilt bronze mounts. A visible light-fitting sits on the top, with a twisted clear crystal column rising above a swirled circular base and a swirled glass central globe, all finished with gilt bronze trim. The lamp stands 68 cm high, 21 cm wide, and 21 cm deep. Placement suits a sideboard top or similar surfaces in living rooms, hallways, or studies, providing task lighting and ambient illumination. The design integrates into traditional and transitional interior schemes, working well on side tables, console tables, or desks as a functional statement lighting piece.

FAQs

French crystal lighting from the 19th century is defined by lead crystal glass components combined with chased gilt bronze or brass mounts. Glassmakers such as Baccarat refined spiralled and cut-glass motifs to maximize light refraction.

These lighting fixtures are constructed using lead crystal glass along with cast gilt bronze, also known as ormolu, or solid brass structural fittings.

Identification involves assessing the density and clarity of the crystal, searching for acid-etched marks or stamps, and examining hand-chased construction details on the metal mounts.

A crystal table lamp can be positioned on a sideboard, console table, or desk to introduce textured illumination and balance modern minimalist furnishings.

Clean crystal elements using a dry microfibre cloth or non-abrasive cleaner, keeping fluids away from metal mounts. Dust gilt bronze gently using a soft brush to protect the original gilded finish.
