This Edwardian sterling silver Albert watch chain has heavy oval links, a central T-bar fastener, and dog clip clasps. Every link bears a lion mark, and the components include hallmarks for Birmingham with the date letter k for 1909 along with maker marks J.M and E.W, displaying light surface wear and a typical antique patina across the silver metal. The necklace measures 39 cm in length with 8.1 mm link widths, a 3.6 cm T-bar, and dog clips measuring 2.4 cm by 0.8 cm. Today, this piece is worn as a necklace, and the clips can also be used to hang pendants or charms in a home setting.

Named after Prince Albert, an Albert watch chain is a specialised chain designed during the 19th century to secure a pocket watch to a waistcoat buttonhole using a transverse T-bar.

Edwardian watch chains were predominantly constructed from hallmarked sterling silver, high-carat gold, or rolled gold, frequently featuring heavy curb or oval links alongside functional dog clips.

Authentic period silver chains typically bear British assay hallmarks stamped on the T-bar, dog clips, and individual links, indicating the silver purity, assay office, and date letter.

While originally designed for waistcoats, modern wearers frequently style antique Albert chains as standalone T-bar necklaces, choker chains, or layered bracelet accessories.

Sterling silver chains should be gently cleaned using a soft jewellery polishing cloth and stored in an airtight, moisture-free environment to prevent tarnish and oxidisation.
