This Edwardian solid sterling silver fern pot originates from England and dates to 1906, carrying a Birmingham hallmark with a maker's mark that is difficult to decipher. The piece takes an open bowl form with a polished flared rim and a rounded body, resting on a pedestal base. The outer surface displays ornate repousse scrollwork and acanthus foliage set against a textured background, complemented by smooth sections around the upper rim and lower base. The silver material presents a bright, reflective metallic finish with distinct highlights and shadows across the embossed contours. The object is free of dings, splits, holes, and repairs, showing only a tiny rim mark. Measuring 8 cm wide by 8 cm in height and weighing 68 grams, the small vessel serves as a decorative accessory for display on a sideboard top within an English country house interior setting. It offers a practical container for small indoor plants or functions as a decorative tabletop accent piece.

Silver fern pots are small decorative vessels designed during the late Victorian and Edwardian periods specifically to hold potted ferns or small houseplants for tabletop display.

These vessels were typically crafted from sterling silver (925 purity) using repousse and chasing techniques to create raised scrollwork, acanthus foliage, and embossed decorative bands.

Authentic British pieces bear official hallmarks stamped into the metal, including the lion passant for sterling purity, an assay office symbol, a makers mark, and a date letter corresponding to the Edwardian era (19011910).

A small silver fern pot can be placed on a sideboard, desk, or bookshelf, serving as a container for small houseplants, stationery items, or as an accent piece among contemporary decor.

Silver should be polished periodically with a soft, non-abrasive cloth and a specialised silver foam or cream, avoiding harsh chemicals or dipping liquids that strip natural oxidisation from detailed chased areas.
