A 19th-century French scent bottle stands 6 cm high, 3.5 cm wide, and 1 cm deep. The piece consists of a rectangular turquoise glass body adorned with gold scrollwork, floral motifs, and white enamel beaded dots, paired with a bulbous engraved silver-gilt cap showing a French boar head hallmark in a lozenge on the lid and collar. The hinged lid opens to reveal an inner opaline glass minute stopper. Today, a collector places the bottle on a bedside table as a decorative vanity accessory. The compact size suits small display surfaces in a bedroom or dressing room, while the metallic hardware and painted motifs provide an accent of colour and pattern.

Late 19th-century French scent bottles often combine fine opaline or Bohemian-style glass, such as Moser, with precious metal mounts like silver gilt. They feature elaborate gilded scrolls, enamelled decoration, and custom-fitted stopper caps tailored for vanity dressers.

These items feature blown or moulded coloured glass bodies decorated with hand-applied gilding and enamel. The screw or hinged caps are typically crafted from sterling silver finished with a thin layer of gold, known as silver gilt or vermeil.

Authentic examples demonstrate precise hand-painted enamelling, heavy gilded scrolling, and high-grade metal fittings that often display French hallmark stamps or silver marks. Examining the wear pattern on the base and gilding helps verify period manufacture.

Displaying a small glass scent bottle on a mirrored vanity tray, inside a glass cloche, or alongside framed art on a bedroom dressing table creates a refined focal point within modern dressing rooms or bathrooms.

Clean the surface gently with a dry, soft microfibre cloth to protect delicate gilding and enamel. Avoid submerging the piece in water or applying abrasive metal polishes, as chemical agents can strip silver gilding and detach glass enamelling.
