This English brass floor lamp from 1880 adopts a Neoclassical style with a grand Regency design vibe. Fabricated entirely from brass, the piece displays a warm golden metallic colour throughout its polished surface. The construction incorporates a fluted column stem topped by a Corinthian capital, an urn-shaped Aragon oil reservoir, and a stepped square base resting upon detailed claw feet. Visible wear includes slight surface tarnish and minor scuffs on the base consistent with age, alongside an electrical cord trailing from the lower section. Measuring 150 cm high, 30 cm wide, and 30 cm deep, the proportions suit placement at the end of a sofa to provide targeted illumination in a traditional sitting room or study.

Corinthian column floor lamps feature architectural design cues inspired by classical Greek and Roman orders, incorporating fluted shafts, acanthus-leaf capitals, and heavy stepped or claw-footed bases.

Historic standard lamps were constructed using cast and turned solid brass components, joined with internal threaded central rods and weighted with iron inside the base for stability.

Authentic period pieces feature visible casting seams, natural surface oxidisation within carved details, heavy cast bases, and evidence of historical electrical conversions from original oil or gas fittings.

Place the lamp alongside contemporary upholstered seating or in an unlit corner, pairing it with a simple neutral linen shade to balance classical brasswork with modern textures.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and avoid abrasive polishes, applying a sparse coat of microcrystalline wax to protect the existing patina from excessive tarnish.
