This Edwardian sterling silver bowl displays repousse decoration and a scalloped rim, standing upon three sculptural mask feet. The exterior surface reveals an embossed design incorporating floral motifs, a vacant cartouche, and grazing goats, alongside a band of dots encircling the base and a flared piecrust rim. The interior basin shows further ornamental work beneath the polished silver finish, which gleams in a bright metallic colour against the light. Measuring 5 cm high, 9.8 cm wide, and 9.8 cm deep, this piece provides compact dimensions suitable for diverse displays. Placed upon a sideboard top within an English country house interior, the bowl functions effectively as a decorative accent or a practical small container for holding trinkets. The balanced proportions and detailed craftsmanship suit traditional dining rooms, living areas, or display cabinets, where the reflective silver surface catches ambient room lighting.

Edwardian silver tableware, created between 1901 and 1910, often incorporated revived Georgian, Rococo, and Neoclassical motifs. Silversmiths of this era favoured elaborate repousse ornament, relief animal motifs, curvilinear profiles, and ornate decorative feet.

Edwardian silver bowls were primarily crafted from sterling silver containing 92.5% pure silver alloyed with copper for durability. Decoration was achieved using repousse work, where designs were hammered from the reverse side, alongside chasing and casting for intricate components like legs and rim details.

Authentic British Edwardian silver is identified by official assay office hallmarks, including the lion passant mark for sterling silver, a town mark, a date letter matching 1901 to 1910, and a makers mark. The weight, hand-finished chasing, and signs of genuine oxidisation in recessed areas also help verify authenticity.

A small silver bowl can be displayed on a sideboard top, mantelpiece, or bedside table as an accent piece. It can function as a ring dish on a dressing table, a salt cellar on a formal dining table, or a decorative element within a curated shelf arrangement.

To preserve antique silver, clean gently using a soft cloth and a specialised silver polish formulated to remove oxidisation without removing detail. Avoid abrasive chemicals, avoid dishwashers, and store silver items in low-humidity environments wrapped in anti-tarnish fabric.
