This vintage mid-century British sterling silver and enamel brooch, made by A H Darby & Son and hallmarked Birmingham 1945, takes the form of a circular pierced frame adorned with enamelled flower blooms in shades of blue, yellow, orange, and purple, interspersed with green leaves and a C-clasp pin fastening on the back. The metal shows a polished silver finish alongside vibrant multi-coloured translucent enamels. The piece has a diameter width of 3.3 cm and a weight of 9.3 grams. Items of this type are suited for pinning to garments, scarves, or hats in a home setting today. The brooch is displayed against a white lace-edged fabric surface with a pale background, and it exhibits light patina on the silver metal components consistent with vintage age.

A silver enamel floral brooch is a piece of decorative jewellery made from sterling silver, decorated with vitreous enamel depicting flower motifs, popular in mid-20th-century British silversmithing.

These brooches are made by applying powdered glass onto shaped metal cells or engraved silver surfaces, which are then fired at high temperatures to fuse the glass into a smooth, colourful coating.

Authentic pieces generally feature silver hallmarks or makers marks on the reverse, such as initials or town marks, alongside precise enamel application and historical pin fastenings.

An enamel brooch can be fastened to coat lapels, silk scarves, hats, or canvas bags to add tailored colour and historic character to modern attire.

Store enamel pieces separately in soft pouches to prevent chipping. Wipe gently with a dry lint-free cloth, avoiding harsh liquid cleaners or ultrasonic baths that could damage the vitreous enamel.
