Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Pantry step stools were utilitarian furnishings designed for domestic kitchens, sculleries, and larders to assist in reaching elevated shelving. Featuring tall upright handles or integrated steps, they allowed users to maintain balance while stepping up or moving the piece between work areas.

These utility pieces were primarily crafted from dense European hardwoods such as elm, ash, or pine, selected for structural stability under weight. Components were joined using traditional mortise and tenon joints, then finished with paint to shield the timber from dampness and wear.

Authentic examples demonstrate natural wear around contact points, including the upper handle rail, seat edges, and lower stretchers. Look for hand-cut apertures in the seat, hand-planed surfaces, and layered paint finishes reflecting historical repainting over time.

A painted step stool serves practical functions in a kitchen or pantry, or as a towel rest in a bathroom. It also functions well as an occasional side table beside a low armchair or as a plant pedestal in a hallway.

Dust surfaces regularly with a dry, lint-free cloth and avoid chemical detergents that can erode historic paint layers. Keep the timber away from direct heat sources to prevent cracking, and blot liquid spills immediately.
