This Victorian small double bedstead combines a gleaming warm gold brass frame with green painted cast iron side rails, supported by white ceramic castors. The design incorporates elegant vertical spindles, turned brass finials atop the posts, and a central maker's plaque mounted on the foot rail. The gently restored structure includes cast brass fittings, creating an authentic English Country House appearance. Measuring 130 cm high, 120 cm wide, and 210 cm deep, the frame accommodates a standard 120 cm by 190 cm mattress. This piece serves as a functional centrepiece in a master bedroom or guest suite, offering traditional sleeping arrangements with period character.

Victorian bedsteads feature tubular brass construction, decorative turned spindles, turned finials, and cast iron framework joints. They gained widespread popularity during the nineteenth century as hygienic alternatives to traditional wooden bedsteads.

These beds were constructed using seamless drawn brass tubing fitted over internal iron cores for structural strength. The framework components were joined using cast iron dovetail brackets and secured to horizontal iron side rails.

Authentic pieces frequently display stamped manufacturer brass plaques, heavy cast iron corner joints, hand-turned decorative brass collars, and original ceramic or iron castors at the base of the legs.

Pair the metallic finish of the brass frame with natural linen bedding, neutral wall tones, or contrasting dark paint to create a balanced focal point within contemporary or traditional bedroom schemes.

Dust the frame regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using harsh chemical polishes or abrasive pads that can strip existing lacquer or natural surface oxidation, and apply microcrystalline wax for long-term surface protection.
